Busy On Base

    We're finally starting to figure out more activities to do on base! When we first got here, we weren't given a "Welcome Packet", like we were supposed to, so we've kind of had to figure things out for ourselves. But that's part of the fun, right?! So we've been making an effort to go out and explore and meet new people. It's been great!
     Two weekends ago, we heard about the Blue Angels Homecoming Show, so we decided to check it out. Tyler and I went to see the air show on Saturday, but on Friday night they fireworks after the event and we had a perfect view from our front porch. It was crazy to me to be sitting outside, in shorts and a tshirt, in the beginning of November, watching fireworks. It was really fun though!
     Saturday morning we headed over to the air show to watch the Blue Angels perform. I've never been to anything like this before so I was really excited to see what it was all about! And trust me, they did not disappoint! The way they could fly so close together, in a perfect formation, while doing tricks, was crazy and so fun to watch! I took a ton of video, but unfortunately I can't post them on here. So these pictures will have to do...

   They had a ton of aircrafts on display, so we got to see one that is very similar to one that Tyler will be training on.

    This past weekend the base had what's called "Career Day", where you can go and tour the aircrafts that you might get assigned to after training. As of right now, Tyler is interested in the B-52 Bomber, so we wanted to go see that. Especially since they don't land the B-52 on this base very often. ( Last time they did, we're told it broke the runway because it weighs so much.) Needless to say, tons of people were in line to see it. We ended up standing in line for about 2 hours, so the B-52 was the only aircraft we were able to tour. It was pretty awesome though and absolutely huge!

   Tyler and I also celebrated 6 months of marriage yesterday! In celebration we bought a Wii-U and enjoyed a night in. I made delicious potato cheddar and bacon soup for dinner and we played Mario Kart. We live a pretty exciting life ;) 

Our First Southern Halloween

       There are many differences between Ohio and Florida, but the biggest difference I have experienced first hand is the Halloween season. I'm used to going to the pumpkin patch, picking apples, watching the leaves change colors, and waiting in line in my winter coat outside of a haunted house. Halloween in Florida was much different; not bad but definitely different. Tyler and I tried to make the most of it and got into the spirit of  our first southern Halloween.
        We started off by buying apple cider and our pumpkins at the grocery store. Not exactly the same ambiance of an apple orchard or pumpkin patch, but we were left with the same end result. We sat in the middle of our living room floor, played Pandora's Halloween music station, and carved our pumpkins. It ended up being a lot of fun and they turned out great! My pumpkin is on the left and Tyler's is on the right.

   The night before Halloween we went to a haunted lighthouse on base. It was set up as a haunted house for Halloween, but is supposedly haunted. First of all, I was able to wear shorts and a tshirt while waiting outside of the haunted house, which was crazy! I'm used to shivering next to Tyler while we wait. Secondly, it was very small and only took about 5 minutes to walk through. The haunted houses back in Ohio usually are much bigger. I'll admit, I still screamed at the very end of the house. It ended up being really cool, though because they let you climb to the top of the lighthouse at night. It was a fairly long walk up to the top; 177 stairs to be exact. Definitely worth the climb for the incredible view. We could see all of the base! I wish I had some pictures of that, but I didn't take my phone with me. Sorry!
      Halloween morning, we went out and got donuts and coffee and enjoyed them on the beach. After spending the morning at the beach, I wasn't feeling much in the spirit of the holiday, so we came home and I read ghost stories. That got me a little too much in the spirit; I was freaked out for the next few hours! Tyler and I watched Halloween movies and drank some pumpkin hard cider the rest of the night.
      I don't know how many more southern Halloweens we'll have, so we tried to make the most of it!

    Peanut got into the spirit the day after Halloween, when his costume was 50% off! He was an alligator and, as you can tell, was absolutely thrilled with his costume....
